Carl recently made a bird feeder at school. They took very large pinecones, put butter on them and rolled them in birdseed. They tied a ribbon to the top to hang them from the trees. This was part of a lesson on how animals hunt for food all winter long.
The feeders were sent home with the assignment to draw a picture of the birds they see.
It took refiling the feeder three times, but we finally got a picture. I was also able to get some photos. They appear to be Dippers or Chickadees.
We are having a very snowy time here. Right now many highways are closed and there are restrictions – chains are required on the highways that are open (not just snow tires or 4 wheel drive.) We probably 8" of snow with 3 layers of ice – one on the ground, one about halfway up and an inch thick and another thin layer about an inch down. The snow won’t pack so no pics of snowmen – Carl is bummed.
