I thought I would be doing more entries lately.
We had an invite to Carlton Winemakers Studio for an event featuring Andrew Rich Wines, Ribbon Ridge Vinyards and Bryce Vineyards. Mom was going to come with us and Grandma would be home with Carl while he napped. Then Sunday morning, Mom called Sunday morning and said that Grandma wasn’t feeling well. Mom would stay home with her and watch Carl. We continued to get ready to go. Five minutes before we were leaving for mom’s house, she called to say that Grandma was having a stroke and she was taking her to the hospital. We spent Sunday afternoon worrying about Grandma. We went to visit her Sunday evening – she wasn’t talking or understanding well, but she recognized Carl. We stayed until the neurologist came.
On Monday, Carl and I went to visit, she was doing much better. Her speech had improved dramatically and she was starting to sound like her old self. Carl was a little hesitant to climb on her bed – later I asked her where Mimi (his nickname for her) was and he said bed.
Tuesday she was dressed and in the chair. Carl promptly crawled in her lap and they read. We also found out that she was going home – one day early! She is doing very well. She sometimes has trouble finding words and sometimes says incorrect ones. She still speaks better than my mother.
One thing to credit with my grandma’s good recovery is my mother’s fast action with the early warning signs. So I looked them up:
- Sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body
- Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding
- Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes
- Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination
- Sudden, severe headache with no known cause
Anyway. on to the Marinade. I finally cooked last night for the first time (steaks) and I made a marinade that turned out very good.
1/2 cup olive oil
1/4 cup raspberry white wine vinegar
2T worcestershire sauce
Salt, black pepper, red pepper flakes
Mix olive oil, vinegar, worcestershire sauce, tumeric and basil. I coated the steaks with in, pour the remainder into the marinading pan. I have a Foodsaver and use the marinading pan than can be evacuated with the Foodsaver. I put the steaks into the pan and gave one side a liberal dose of salt and pepper and a little bit of red pepper flakes. I evacuated the container and marinaded for 9 hours. We then grilled the steaks.
